The short version
- Line bet: the stake on one payline. Total bet: line bet × lines in play, the real cost of a spin.
- Per-line multiple ÷ lines in play = the same prize as a multiple of the total bet.
- 11 of the 44 slots in our spec file quote the top award per line, 7 against the whole spin in some form (total bet, base bet, stake or bet credit), and 5 in other or unclear terms.
- Springbok publishes no figure for how often any top award lands.
- Line bet. The stake on a single payline. Per-line top awards multiply this, not the whole spin.
- Lines. Shadow Gods plays 50 paylines, per Springbok's preview.
- Total bet. What one spin costs: 50 line bets.
- Top award. Springbok gives "up to 50,000x the bet per line" for Shadow Gods: the single best result the pay table allows.
- In total-bet terms. 50,000 ÷ 50 = 1,000x the spin cost. A ceiling, not a typical win.
Line bet, total bet and the 'x'
On a payline slot you set a stake for each line. The game multiplies that line bet by the number of lines in play to get the total bet, and the total bet is what leaves your balance on every spin. Pay tables are written in multiples of the line bet because each line is paid on its own.
A worked example in round numbers: at R0.20 a line on a 10-line game, each spin costs R2. A symbol paying 25x the bet per line returns R5 when it lands on one line; if it lands on two lines in the same spin, the two wins are normally added together, R10 in all.
Springbok's reviews and tiles do not all quote top awards against the same base. Across the slots in our spec file that publish one, the wording falls into these groups:
| Wording | What it multiplies | Titles | For example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bet per line, line bet, per line | The stake on one payline | 11 | Shadow Gods, Crimson Castle, Treasure Sparks, Fu Long Treasures and 7 more |
| Total bet | The full cost of one spin | 2 | Winnie the Piggie Las Vegas, Olympus Thunderhold |
| Stake | The full cost of one spin | 1 | Diamond Fiesta |
| Base bet | The spin cost before optional extras | 3 | Triple Tigers, Bass Baggin' Bounty, T-Rex Lava Blitz |
| Bet credit | FAT CA$H's own unit, quoted with all reels active | 1 | FAT CA$H |
| Bet per way | A share of the stake on one way; the split is not published | 1 | Panda Magic |
| "The bet", unspecified | Not stated: could be the line bet or the whole spin | 4 | Planet Of The 'Roos, The Cash is Right, Meerkat Misfits, Dr. Winmore |
"Base bet" usually means the spin cost before any optional add-on. Olympus Thunderhold's tile, for instance, lists a Bonus Bet that adds 25% to each spin, which a quote against the base bet would leave out.
Turning a per-line top award into spin terms
One division does it. Divide the per-line multiple by the number of lines you are playing, and you have the same prize as a multiple of the total bet:
per-line multiple ÷ lines in play = multiple of the total bet
Here is that sum for every slot in our spec file whose top award Springbok quotes per line, from fewest lines to most. The quotes are Springbok's, from its reviews and previews; the last column is our arithmetic, with every line in play.
| Game | Lines | Top award, as Springbok quotes it | Against the total bet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Devil's Jackpot | 9 | Up to 50,000x per line | about 5,556x |
| Liberty Rockets | 9 | Up to 50,000x the line bet | about 5,556x |
| Crimson Castle | 10 | Up to 50,000x the bet per line | 5,000x |
| Elemental Adventures | 10 | 50,000x per line | 5,000x |
| Blazing Horse – Huǒ Mǎ Zhāo Fú | 20 | Up to 50,000x the bet per line | 2,500x |
| Cash Bandits 2 | 25 (variable) | 50,000x the line bet | 2,000x |
| Fu Long Treasures | 25 | Up to 50,000x the bet per line | 2,000x |
| Treasure Sparks | 25 | Up to 50,000x the bet per line | 2,000x |
| Seahorse Surge | 30 | Up to 50,000x the bet per line | about 1,667x |
| Bubble Bubble 2 | 50 (fixed) | Up to 9,000x the line bet | 180x |
| Shadow Gods | 50 | Up to 50,000x the bet per line | 1,000x |
Two things stand out. The same headline can mean very different ceilings: on a 9-line game, 50,000x per line is about 5,556x a spin, while on a 50-line game it is 1,000x. And on games with variable lines, such as Cash Bandits 2, playing fewer lines lowers the spin cost, so the per-line ceiling becomes a bigger multiple of what you staked; it also leaves fewer lines for the top combination to land on, so the ceiling gets harder to reach, not easier.
At R0.10 a line on Liberty Rockets, a spin costs R0.90 and the top prize works out at R5,000, about 5,556 times the cost of the spin. That is the arithmetic of the ceiling, not a result to plan around.
Comparing top awards between games
Headline figures are only comparable once they are measured against the same thing. Springbok gives Olympus Thunderhold a top award of 2,500x the total bet and Crimson Castle one of up to 50,000x the bet per line. The raw numbers differ by a factor of 20; converted, Crimson Castle's ceiling is 5,000x the total bet, so the real gap is a factor of 2.
| Game | Lines or ways | Top award |
|---|---|---|
| Crimson Castle | 10 lines | up to 50,000x the bet per lineSB |
| Olympus Thunderhold | Pays anywhere | 2,500x the total betSB |
| Triple Tigers | 243 ways | up to 2,000x the base betSB |
| Panda Magic | 1,024 ways | 2,000x the bet per waySB |
| Planet Of The 'Roos | 25 lines | 50,000x the betSB |
From Springbok's lobby tiles, read 9 October 2026; SB marks a figure from a Springbok review or article. Examples, not a complete list of the lobby's 244 slots.
Some quotes cannot be converted from what is published. Panda Magic's review gives 2,000x the bet per way on a 1,024 ways game, and how the stake is split across those ways is not in our sources, so we leave it as quoted. Planet Of The 'Roos is quoted at 50,000x the bet without saying which bet; on 25 lines, the line-bet and total-bet readings differ by a factor of 25. Where Springbok does not say, we do not guess.
Why a top award is not a typical win
A top award is the single best result the pay table allows, often a full line of the highest symbol or of wilds, sometimes boosted by a feature. It sits at the far end of a long tail of possible results, and most winning spins land at the other end, returning a small multiple of the stake.
Springbok publishes no frequency for any top award. The nearest published number is the hit rate of 1 in 95 in Springbok's Crimson Castle review; the review does not define it, and whatever it counts, it is not the chance of the top prize.
The size of the ceiling says little about how a game behaves, either. Crimson Castle and Liberty Rockets quote the same per-line ceiling and both carry a medium volatility label, while Bubble Bubble 2 quotes a much lower one, up to 9,000x the line bet, and the lobby labels it very high.
A top award measures the best single result; the long-run return is a separate figure (the RTP entry), and so is how unevenly it arrives (the volatility entry).
Named jackpots, such as the Mini, Minor, Major and Grand on Liberty Rockets and Treasure Sparks, sit alongside the top award with rules of their own. This site never quotes their amounts.
Random jackpots, explainedStake size, bonus rules and the other 'x'
Raising the line bet scales every prize on the pay table, the top award included, and the spin cost by the same factor. The multiples stay put, and on a standard pay table so does the chance of each combination.
Bonus play adds a limit. While a Springbok bonus is active, each bet is capped at R100 T&Cs, and winnings from bigger bets are voided. On a lines game what leaves your balance is the total bet, so the cautious reading is to keep the whole spin under that cap, not just the line bet, and to count any optional add-on such as a bonus bet as part of the spin.
Finally, this "x" is not the "x" in a wagering requirement. The 30x on Springbok's welcome codes multiplies the deposit plus bonus to give the total you must stake before withdrawing; it says nothing about what a spin can pay. That side is covered in the wagering requirements, worked in rand.

Liberty Rockets
- 3×3
- 9 lines
- Medium volatility
Liberty Rockets makes the conversion easy to follow: 9 lines on a 3×3 grid, so a top prize Springbok's review quotes as up to 50,000x the line bet works out at about 5,556x a full spin. Its tile also lists Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpots, which sit apart from that figure. Springbok review
